FreshPick: Ludacris ft. Nas & Jay Z – I Do It For Hip Hop

ludacris - theatre of the mind

New joint from Chris, Nasir, and Shawn. My apologies in advance for the tags all over the track. Not a bad joint at all, but part of me feels it could’ve been a little better. Definitely sounds good on paper but the execution doesn’t quite live up to the idea. Maybe if rappers started recording in the same studio we’d get the magic back that hip hop is missing. Still a fresh pick nonetheless…

Born to Use Mics: Reading Nas’ Illmatic

Yup, you’re not seeing things. Nas’ classic piece Illmatic is being turned into a book. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson (Georgetown professor and author of Holla If You Hear Me) has gathered some bright minds in order to engage on one of the greatest classics of our time. Here is what Dyson told AllHipHop:

Every song on Illmatic will be analyzed, interpreted and then re-articulated in a kind of intellectual sense from his own base in Hip Hop and we’re trying to deal with that seriously.“

Release date as of now is January 2009. I will definitely keep you nerds posted….

FreshPick: My President Is Black – Young Jeezy ft. Nas

Yes, another heater from Jeezy. The only drawback on this song is the beginning of Nas’ verse where he tries to pull a “Twista”. Thank God he stops before the end of the verse. Other than that, I am feeling this joint. This is actually the first time I’ve looked forward to a Recession.
