Blackberry Thunder?

Pictures courtesy of crackberry.com

As an avid fan junkie of the blackberry, I don’t seem to be too excited about this version as of yet. I understand that RIM is trying to get a piece of the iPhone market and as well would like to be ahead of the curve in technology, but I’m not sold on the whole “touch screen” phenomena (call me old fashioned). It’s hard enough typing on a small a@$ QWERTY keyboard (though I have mastered it) much less a screen with virtual keys. I’ll probably wait for the second or third generation to come out before I switch. By then, all of the bugs will have been worked out and it will probably be uncool to have keys on your phone. But until that time comes, my 8830 will do just fine.

Hey Bloggers, WordPress Update

I’m not budging from 2.5 until I hear about everything thats jacked up in this new version. Call me stubborn…..

WordPress Update Arrives Early, Packs in New Features

Wordpress

The team behind the popular WordPress publishing system has cranked out the new version 2.6 nearly a month ahead of schedule. The latest version of WordPress features a number of improvements and further refines the new dashboard interface that made its debut in WordPress 2.5, which launched earlier this year.

Perhaps the most welcome of the new features in 2.6 is a full-blown versioning system that makes it dead simple to step backward and forward through all the revisions you’ve made to your post.

If you’re working in a collaborative environment you’ll be able to see who made what changes and when they were saved. There’s even a very slick interface for comparing revisions side-by-side with all the differences highlighted.

WordPress’s “Press This” bookmarklet for making quick posts has also seen a makeover with new features to grab media and quotes from the page you’re linking to.

Other new features include the ability to add captions to your uploaded images and support for the Gears browser plugin for offline storage of media and other files. Obviously there’s a lot more Gears can do for WordPress but at the moment you’ll have to settle for local storage of frequently used CSS and JavaScript files — if nothing else, you should see a speed boost in the admin portion of your site.

WordPress 2.6 also offers live previews of themes, live-updating word counts for your posts, drag-and-drop support for photo galleries (which looks like it uses the same JavaScript tools we outlined yesterday), shift-click support for checkboxes and a good deal more.

You can grab the latest version of WordPress from the official site and keep an eye out for the Easter Egg, which the developers claim isn’t in there. Be sure to let us know if you stumble across it.

Internet Radio (literally)

Courtesy of Tivoli Audio we get our first internet radio. The future is here (finally). Now I’m just waiting for those flying cars they had on the Jetsons. Here is what what Tivoli Audio has to say about their new product:

“It has been our goal to continually bring the most innovative radios to market with the quality and high performance that our customers have come to expect from Tivoli Audio,” says Tivoli Audio Chairman and CEO Tom DeVesto. “The greatest challenge in designing the NetWorks Global radio was in making it simple to use. It combines function and design with the ability to deliver the world of radio broadcasts to home radio listeners, offering audio networking that sounds as good as it looks.”

Accessing AM and FM stations via a Wi-Fi or Ethernet broadband connection, NetWorks connects to thousands of free radio stations worldwide. It easily searches for stations by country, genre, or a station’s call letters. It is also one of the first audio products to be user-upgradeable, so your advanced radio can keep pace with rapidly changing technology. NetWorks comes with five pre-sets, but through its exclusive Global Portal can add an unlimited number of Internet stations that are stored to a “Favorites” list. These would include many HD Multi-cast and DAB stations, previously only available from expensive HD or dedicated DAB receivers. NetWorks is available with or without a digital FM tuner with RDS (where available) to provide continual service when Internet service is unavailable.

NetWorks even has the ability to stream music files from a computer via an Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection. NetWorks is compatible with most of today’s popular music formats, including MP3, WMA, and Real Audio. Also included is a USB input to connect a compatible MP3 player or memory stick. Additional features include a virtual analog clock, dual independent alarms with sleep timer and snooze function, compact remote control, and easy-to-read four-line by 16 character back-lighted display.

NetWorks employs a full-range 3.5” magnetically shielded driver capable of high quality audio reproduction. For true stereo sound, NetWorks provides a right channel output for the matching NetWorks Speaker, sold separately. A matching CD player and subwoofer are available. As a music system, NetWorks includes stereo headphone, record and subwoofer outputs, and auxiliary and mixing inputs for use with other audio equipment or a computer.

“In keeping with Tivoli Audio’s design philosophy, NetWorks is very easy to use – simply access the Internet and start listening. You don’t have to be a computer expert or even need a computer to operate it,” adds Mr. DeVesto.
