Phonte is starting to make his way on my top 20 list of MC’s slowly but surely. You have to admit, he’s the male Lauryn Hill. He just needs that one album to make it known. This track doesn’t fall short of proving Phonte’s talent for writing a good song.

Recession is not about the current recession we’re all feeling nor is it about the recent 10% state tax hike in Cali. What Phonte is talking about here is something every dude has been through whether he wants to admit it or not….a female being his personal recession (listen to the song if you still don’t understand). This is off of Focus’ forth coming album titled “Avant Garde Project” and from the sounds of it, this will be a dope project. Can’t wait for the release…

p.s. Listen to this on good speakers, the kick on this track is SICK!!!

Update:

Just got word from Focus’ manager, Tye, that the first verse is actually Focus and not Phonte. That f’ed my head up and knowing this actually makes the song even doper for me now. I had no idea Focus could put it down like this. Good music….
