Walrus TV Artist Feature: Estevan Oriol Interview from The Run Up & Estevan Oriol Photo Contest

Courtesy of Walrus TV:

Former club bouncer and Los Angeles native Estevan Oriol got his start in the entertainment business managing tours for huge artists like “House of Pain” and “Cypress Hill” almost 20 years ago. While globe trotting with them he began his photography career taking flicks of the madness and glitter that surrounds international celebrities. When he was back home in L.A though, it was a much different story. He took his cues from the street life surrounding him. The singular dramatic black and white photos he produces are gripping, beautiful, and authentically menacing portraits of individuals fully immersed in L.A gang lifestyle. Blessed with a talented eye and a hood pass, he takes pictures in places armed with a camera where most tough guys would take a weapon. Offered for the first time to the public for free, in this exclusive interview from The Run Up, Estevan Oriol expresses his thoughts, methods, and views on approaching everyday with the hunger of a hustler who doesn’t know where his next meal will come from.

Dangermouse’s Marketing Strategies Are Genious

Definitely a dude to take creative notes from, Dangermouse does it again. This time he’s selling a blank cd-r. Yea…..blank. Danger’s new album titled “Dark Night of the Soul” is going through some release issues with EMI. Filmmaker David Lynch provided a book of still photos with which the CD was to be packaged.  The book is still slated for release, but a blank CDR will be inserted instead of the actual album (what you do with that blank CD-R is completely up to you. I’m sure he’s not encouraging you to download the album online to burn onto this disc *wink, wink*). The album includes appearances from The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, Iggy Pop, Frank Black, The Shins’ James Mercer, Super Furry Animals’ lead singer Gruff Rhys, ex-Granddaddy principle Jason Lytle, The Cardigans’ Nina Persson, and singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt. Feel free to check out the stream here and if you’re feelin extra gangster,  head over to the site to purchase your copy of the blank disc.
