Legendary photographer, Ricky Powell, gives us a quick run down on some of his most popular shots and as well some background to when he was coming up in the 80′s. Speaking of the 80′s, Upper Playground is giving away a Ricky Powell photo of RUN DMC in Paris from 1987. The photo is signed by Ricky Powell, is framed and measures at 3 feet by 2 feet. To enter, all you have to do is submit a photo of an animal on the Upper Playground Facebook Fan Page – it can be anything – your pet, a pigeon on the sidewalk, a rat on the street – whatever. The person who submits the best animal photo will win the photo of Run DMC in Paris/1987. The contest is open for 2 weeks and a winner will be announced on Wednesday, May 13th. In this week’s edition of Walrus TV, graffiti legend SLICK tells us how he earned his name while he was in Catholic school. SLICK was a troublemaker as a kid, and it was his penchant for vandalism that actually lead him to art school. Ironically, he stumbled into his crew while at Otis Parson in Los Angeles. SLICK showcased his talent in the streets, and like many artists, has seamlessly made the transition into the gallery. He’s had a long career and his art has been shown everywhere from films, album covers and music videos.
