FreshArt: Trozo

trozo

L.A. artist, Eduardo Valdivieso, uses a variety of acrylic paintings and ties it in with digital media. Using wood and classic canvas as a base, Trozo captures different characters from contemporary life supported by bold strokes and type messaging. This dude is definitely one to watch if you’re an art head…

If I Had A Dollar For Every Idea I’ve Had That I Didn’t Follow Up On…

Damn yall, I swear on my grandmom’s grave that I have had this idea in my head since high school (mid-90′s) – the hip hop soundclash yall. As an avid fan of King Addies and Killamanjaro (google it if you have to), I have always thought it would be ill for the soundclash to present itself to hip hop. Well, it looks like I took to long do something about it. There is only one element that I would add though and I might as well tell the whole world right now since the idea is out there. “Specials/Dub Plates”…yup, this is when the DJ gets a known artist to sing one of his/her popular songs but with remixed lyrics talking shit about the opposite side’s DJ. Can you imagine getting a Young Jeezy or JayZ dub?!?! Party done, sound lock off, no play back….I’m done slacking on my ideas. First the edible straw and now this…I gotta get to working on the Kool-Aid Kup (shhhh), I’ll see yall at the bank.

FreshBook: E Pluribus Venom by Shepard Fairey

shepard fairey e pluribus venom

One of my favorite artists releases a must have piece for the coffee table and book shelf. In his latest book titled E Pluribus Venom (meaning: From Many, Venom), Fairey features pieces from his 2007 show at the Jonathan Levin Gallery in New York City. The title is a play on words of E pluribus unum (From Many, One), the Latin phrase that appears on U.S. currency.

Fairey’s intended meaning: the myriad strands of American society, culture, politics, business, and media today conspire to create an environment that, both literally and figuratively, is poisonous. I get the feeling my conservative friends that bashed me (or attempted to), will take some more stabs at me for this post. If you guys missed out on the comment bashment, be sure to check it out…very amusing to say the least.

There’s A New Sheriff In Town…Last.fm, Move Over!

lala logo

As an avid fanatic of last.fm, I think I have found a new love. Maybe I’m jumping to conclusions to soon, but lala is the shit. What’s the difference you ask? Well first and foremost, lala is a music streaming service where you pay per song to keep your library online. Now on to the pros and cons:

Pros:

  1. Only 10 cents per track for streaming
  2. NO Advertisements
  3. Upload your existing illegal songs for free streaming
  4. They have access to the major 4 labels
  5. You can surf the website while a song continuously plays
  6. 50 free songs upon sign-up
  7. FULL song previews
Cons:
  1. If you’re an artist or label wanting to advertise, NO ads
  2. Not every song is available yet as a 10 cent purchase for streaming
  3. This company has failed twice in the past
I will be testing this site out as soon as I get back from vacation (Honduras bitches) and will keep you nerds up to date on the dopeness that’s about to be sprung upon us. Just further proof that music is moving towards free (10 cents = free, kind of?).

Mickey Factz Freestyle That Made Me Realize Real MC’s Still Exist

Mickey beats up a beat….I’m not really sure what else to say. I’m glad to see a new school MC that gives a damn about raw lyrics. Don’t get me wrong, when it comes down to it he will have to be able to create solid songs. But I like the fact that at least his lyrical foundation is in place already.

FreshPick: Budden Meets Portishead: Mood Muzik’s Third

So I’m at work, checking my emails…I mean “working” and I get this message from a kid named Ill Poetic. I guess I’m late on this but, dude sent me a link to this “mash-up” that he released earlier this year. I usually don’t expect too much from un-signed acts which really is unfair and I try not to do it but I do. Low and behold….this shit is banging. I wouldn’t call myself a Joe Budden fan, but I love Portishead (pause) which is what caught my interest. And believe me when I tell you nerds that this abum doesn’t disappoint. Illpoetic has recieved great reviews in spots such as Rolling Stone, Allhiphop.com, and 2dopeboyz.com just to name a few. Be on the lookout for more work in the future from this up and coming producer (Dwele, Kidz in the Hall, Slum Village), but for now…..hold this.
