WTF: If Only My Dad Wore Jordans…

I’m not sure where Nike is going with this, or maybe I’m just out of the loop. Check out these retro air jordans….as you can see they have replaced the laces with velcro. As of right now there is no release date and hopefully there will never be one. Yea….umm….

My Open Letter to Record Labels

Dear Mr. Record Label Guy,
I have noticed that you have been scrambling since 2000 trying to figure out how the internet works, but the answer is right in front of your face. Instead of trying to put file sharers and bloggers in jail, you need to take advantage of what’s going on in cyberspace.
For those of you not familiar with the subscription model, this is the napster/limewire like service where you pay x-amount of dollars per month for unlimited access to mp3 files. Now throw streaming internet radio into the mix (i.e. pandora, last fm, etc.) and you have yet another outlet that is reaching millions of listeners daily. As everyone knows (except for you suits), first week record sales are no longer important nor do they measure the success of an artist (just ask Usher or Mariah). A new system needs to be put in place for artists. Album sales probably won’t exist anymore in the near future so you’re going to have to start thinking of how revenue can be made by cutting deals with different services while using albums as promotional tools (just ask Prince or Radiohead). I think it’s obvious that listeners don’t want to pay for music unless there is some sort of benefit/product that is being offered. So please, wake up and smell the hard drive (pause) and start putting some thought into these artist’s future instead of throwing a bunch of crap at the wall and seeing what sticks.
Sincerely,
Fresh

FreshPick/New Artist: Hope – Rain Don’t Last
So I’m in this lounge sipping on my usual black label on the rocks (yea, I go for the gusto at times) and this artist I have never heard of is about to perform. She gets on stage with a guitar and……that’s it, a guitar. She starts singing and I have to say it was the first time I ever got goose bumps from a chick’s voice sounding so dope. Anyways, straight from L.A., check out Hope (ha….that rhymed, dope/hope).

FreshArt: Inside of Nate Dee’s Art Work

Born and raised in south Florida, Nathan Delinois has been crafting his Art for as long as he remembers. Taking part in many exhibitions, winning a long list of awards, and having his artwork selected for an American & Russian Art Exchange, he is definitely no stranger to the art scene. A once member of the Broward Art Guild, his artwork has been seen all over South Florida.
This artist incorporates many different influences in his work. Many visibly present and some not as readily recognized. When asked about his influences the artist answered with, “I have so many it’s hard to just give a few; I am definitely influenced by my Haitian background and the use of color in a lot of Haitian Art. This can be seen in a few of my later self portraits & paintings. At the same time I am also influenced by a lot of the graffiti of Marc Ecko, Tat’s cru & the Inkheads. There is also the design quality of African art & the drama of Greek art from the Hellenistic period. I also like the work of some contemporary artists… Especially that of the new pop surrealists also known as “low brow artists”.
Here is what Nate has to say about his current series:
The Current series that I am working in is similar to a potpourri with a mélange of images and patterns. While usually based on a figurative element that is the focal point, the associated images and patterns are representative of my personal experiences, ideas, and philosophies. Although each piece is usually a direct response to the text contained with in, I still try to keep the actual meaning as ambiguous as possible. I want the viewer to find his or her own meaning and relationship to the artwork. At first glance there is a sense of whimsy in my work that is grounded by its urban visual elements.
The medium that I tend to work in is acrylics and watercolor. I tend to paint on varied materials such as wood, canvas, or paper.
