If you haven’t heard of Konee yet, don’t worry you will. This man has the internet buzzing right now with the new Rhymefest video – Stolen. Konee isn’t exactly new to the game and has been paying dues for some time now. Konee is what I call the evolved b-boy that I see popping up more and more everyday. Originally starting out breakdancing and animating, he grew his passion for the arts into directing videos and movies. I got a chance to catch up with Konee for a Fresh Nerd special. Yea, that’s right…..the 21 question interview (not your standard interview). Hear what Konee had to say:
FN: What’s your middle name?
FN: When in doubt….
Konee: Black it out!
FN: You must give a lecture on a topic you know nothing about. What topic do you choose?
FN: What’s your favorite exclamation?
FN: Invent a word
FN: Define it
FN: Tell me the story of your life.
Konee: He was born in Chicago, and eventually…
…He drew Comics until…
…He made cartoons, and then…
…He breakdanced, and then…
…He documented hip hop, until….
…He directed music videos, until…
…He directed movies.
Along the way he made a lot of women happy and made everybody laugh (with him?)…
…then he Died/Hid.
FN: Who was your best friend in 6th grade?
Konee: Either Avram or Amir or Alan Lewis or my mom
FN: That recurring dream you have, what is it about?
Konee: Being the best…
FN: In the beginning there was?
Konee: One, but it turned into a ton
FN: You’re on a raft. Rhymefest and Kanye are overboard drowning. You can only save one person. Who do you save?
Konee: Cuz he would save me if it were me and Kanye drowning
(Hmmmm, I wonder who Kanye would pick…)
FN: Hip Hop is (blank)
Konee: ego and competition
FN: How old were you when BeatStreet came out?
Konee: too young
FN: Oprah or Blanche from the Golden Girls?
Konee: Let’s not get too personal.
FN: The world is (blank)
FN: When was the last time you spoke to yourself out loud?
Konee: “RIGHT NOW, KONEE YOU BASTARD!”
FN: What’s the best part of your job?
Konee: People respecting me enough to give me fun interviews like this.
FN: Without Chicago, hip hop wouldn’t have witnessed…
FN: What advice do you have for aspiring directors?
Konee: Do what you believe and piss people off. If you can take the heat, then you know you really believe it.
FN: When was the last time you set a personal goal?
Konee: A better question is when I last completed a goal…
And an honest answer to that? I’m still working on it!
FN: Who named you KoneeRok?
Konee: Miggy; the “president” of my first Breakdancing crew
Wouldn’t you like to know =-)
FN: Describe yourself today as opposed to when you first started?
Konee: Much Smarter and a waaaaay better dresser. I’m still strange though…
