As I was on the way to work this morning, I was listening to the 10 songs that get played in radio rotation twice an hour and realized why my comfort (not love) for “radio friendly” music is decreasing exponentially. Here are 10 things that I think will help get us as a society back on track to a pleasurable listening experience:
10. Autotune – for those of you reading that aren’t familiar with autotune, this is the effect on the artist’s voice that makes vocal appear “computerized” if you will (i.e. T-Pain). I believe this is single handedly ruining the state of music…..please stop
9. P-Diddy’isms’ – You know the adlib vocal track in the back that says “yea, aha, c’mon, yea”….please leave this to Diddy.
8. The statement “We in the building!” – Of course you’re in the building!!! I’ve never been to a studio outside of a building. But hey, maybe I’m not up on it yet.
7. The statement “(Insert producer name here), I see you!” – Well, yes….you do see him/her. Most likely they’re there recording with you or you have met the producer (hopefully). So yes, I know….you see him.
6. Any reference to “Google” or “YouTube” in song lyrics – Ok, I get it. You’re hip, you’re cool. You want to relate to the “tweens” but really… c’mon, its corny and blatant.
5. The word “club” – I’m sure you visit other places other than the club. Please feel free to use other locations in your music. Don’t worry, we will still be able to relate.
4. Featuring your friend on your song – Nuff’ said…
3. Featuring Lil Wayne on your song – I have nothing against Wayne at all. As a matter if fact, I think he dropped a classic album. But if I have to hear one more song on the radio that has a feature from Lil Wayne….I’m burning my copy of Carter III
2. Autotune – Yea, I’m really tired of it
1. Featuring T-Pain on your hook – Please reference numbers 10 and 2
Having said that, I’m going to go listen to the radio now….
