Basquiat – Untitled

I can’t say I’m a fan of Basquiat, but this is one of my favorite pieces. I caught his exhibit when it came to L.A. a couple of years ago and this is the one that stood out to me. Here is his story for those of you that aren’t familiar:
Born on December 22, 1960, to a Haitian-American father and a Puerto Rican-American mother, Jean-Michel Basquiat was raised in Brooklyn. Although active for just one decade, he is considered one of the best-known artists of his generation and received unprecedented international recognition. When still in his teens, Basquiat first gained notoriety among New Yorkers for the cryptic graffiti poetry he sprayed on the walls of Lower Manhattan under the pseudonym SAMO. In 1981, when he was 20 years old, Basquiat burst upon the art scene under his own name with an original body of work that quickly developed into a complex and highly diverse, mature style, marked by innovation, sophistication, skill, and a stirring emotional depth. By the age of 21, he had already enjoyed five important one-person exhibitions and been included in the prestigious Documenta 7 in Kassel, Germany. Basquiat died of a drug overdose in 1988 at the age of 27.

Dr. Dre’s Detox Is Finally……

Well, I don’t want to get the hopes of all you nerds up too high but we might see Detox before the end of the year according to Doc Dre. That statement could also mean the same as when my mother would say “soon come” which in patois (Jamaican dialect) means WHENEVER. Here is what he had to say:
“I’m just now — over the last couple of months — starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it.”

Hera – Therapy Dropout

Hera (Frankfurt, Germany) has an exhibit up at Fifty24 in San Francisco through July. Thereapy Dropout is Hera’s first solo endeavor – and seems to be an impressive debut. Here is how Hera describes her exhibit:
“If you paint what you feel, you drag it out of yourself and put it in front of you, where you can see it and deal with it. Once that’s done you can turn your back on it and leave it behind. Others will eventually paint over it, but that doesn’t matter, because you had never planned on keeping it anyway. You’re moving on. That’s it.”

MySpace Music Finally Launching in September
So it looks like MySpace is ready to launch their “music site” that will act as a music store (i.e. iTunes) / subscription service (i.e. eMusic). Here is what TechCrunch had to say:
MySpace’s upcoming music joint venture with 3 of the 4 major labels, first announced in April, will launch in September (EMI is still a holdout, but from what we hear they may be ready to fold soon). Chris DeWolfe, CEO of MySpace, mentioned that date and gave other details about the joint venture in an interview today with Adam Lashinsky at the Fortune Brainstorm conference in Half Moon Bay, CA.
Afterward, he told TechCrunch Co-Editor Erick Schonfeld, who is attending the event, that MySpace Music will be a combination music store/subscription service…..click here for full article.
